The Gucci Minidress

Contrary to what you might think, I very rarely (read:never) see an article of clothing in the fashion spreads of Vogue and Allure and think “I must have it!” Sure, I gain inspiration from the textures, color, and shapes of the designers, but they always seem too overdone for my everyday life. I have seen many pieces that I would wear if dropped in my lap, but not one that in itself awakens the consumer within me. But after seeing the Gucci minidress on Kate Hudson in the August 2006 issue of Allure, I knew I had to have it. This was not just a must-have dress of the moment, it was a dress that I knew I could fit into my wardrobe. More likely, it would have become front-and-center in my wardrobe. It is sexy, without being too slinky. It is glam, without being tacky. And, well, it is Gucci without trying too hard. The intricate details are artistic, and the list is endless of places and ways to wear it. Alas, with a retail value of $7,995 on Gucci.com, you can guess the probability of it hanging in my closet. Thankfully, I’ve always been a fan of vintage… so maybe someday.
