I’ll admit it, I was that dorky kid in school whose favorite field trip was to the science museum. I made model volcanoes just for fun, and experiemented with ways to elaborate on the baking soda and vinegar formula… because everyone knows that lava isn’t white. Enter science kits, which is a great marketplace to purchase fun and educational science toys. It makes the National Geographic section of Target looks like, err, kids stuff.
Here’s my thought on this. Children need toys to play with. They stimulate creativty and provide entertainment and fun. But why not make playtime even better by teaching them something, as well. Learning the little tricks of the universe, especially i a fun way, opens their eyes to the magic around them. Kids find some of the simplest thing to be mesmerizing and something simple (like my volcano) can just blow their mind.
If I was shopping today, I’d get the anatomy model like I had as a kid and could never find all the pieces to. My boyfriend is looking over my shoulder an going nuts over the electric circuit kits… hmm… this post may ahve already made a sale. Maybe the cool things for kids can be cool for big kids, too. I’ll keep you posted on if a circit kit shows up on my doorstep anytime soon.
